Company president Robin McRoskey Azevedo credits the organization SFMade.org for refocusing attention to the importance of local manufacturers in San Francisco and other U.S. cities. "Small and medium size urban manufacturing companies like McRoskey are helping our country regain its competitive edge," says Azevedo. "McRoskey employs a local workforce and supports our local economy, just as we have for the past 112 years. Not only does this make good economic sense, it also allows us to create a more carefully constructed, higher quality product." McRoskey's San Francisco story began in 1899 when brothers Edward and Leonard McRoskey arrived from Chicago with mattress-making equipment to sell. Instead, they became manufacturers themselves. From 1925 to 2010, McRoskey's mattresses were made on the top two floors of 1687 Market Street, the current location of the McRoskey showroom. Today, McRoskey mattresses and box springs are handcrafted at the factory at 1400 Minnesota Street in the city's Dog Patch/Central Waterfront Area.
