McRoskey made sure that Karnazes slept in comfort during the 75-day Los Angeles to New York City run with a custom-size handcrafted McRoskey mattress created specifically for his traveling bus. He said that it helped him sleep cooler and recover faster during the challenging adventure. Karnazes, who sleeps on a McRoskey at home, made a special request for the McRoskey mattress and it was built to specification and installed in the bus prior to the start of the Run Across America. Over 75 days, 3 hours and 21 minutes, Karnazes ran 2954.85 miles to raise awareness of the need for an active lifestyle for kids and to raise money for the national organization Action for Healthy Kids. His progress was highlighted on a daily basis on the Regis and Kelly LIVE! Show.
