Wooden Bed Slats

McRoskey Mattress Company No-Sag T-Slats and Channel Slats

Wooden slats support the box spring and mattress within the bedstead (a bedstead is bed furniture, usually a headboard and footboard connected by side rails). Bed slats fit across the width of the bedstead from side rail to side rail. Usually three slats are sufficient for this purpose.

No-Sag T-Slats
  • Made with a top flat slat plus two vertical slats nailed together and screwed to the top flat slat. The vertical slats make the No-Sag T-Slat rigid, and thus prevent the box spring and mattress from sagging within the bedstead.
  • These are the best slats for bedsteads that are 55” wide or wider (such as Queen or King size); they may be appropriate in narrower bedsteads as well.
No-Sag Channel Slats
  • Made with a top flat slat plus two vertical slats set apart and screwed to the top flat slat, forming a channel. The vertical slats make the No-Sag Channel Slat rigid, and thus prevent the mattress and box spring from sagging within the bedstead.
  • Channel slats are used in bedsteads where L-shaped brackets affixed to the side rails support the box spring; the channel slat fits over the bottom of the L-bracket.
Flat Slats
  • Usually made from 1” X 4” lumber.
  • Normally used in bedsteads that are less than 55” wide (such as twin or double size).
